Just when we thought Fenisha and Ethan were going to walk happily into the sunset, Casualty had other plans for the bride-to-be. We spoke to Olivia D’Lima about her heartbreaking exit from the show…
Hi Olivia! What was your reaction when you read the script for your final episode?
Well, George [Rainsford, aka Ethan] and I read the final episode at the same time, and we were both in tears. The story was gut-wrenching and the writers did it justice, so we really couldn’t help but feel all the emotions. I don’t know what more I could ask for as an actor! But as a person who loves Fenisha, I am of course mourning her death and will be for quite some time. She has changed me for the better and I will never forget her.
What was the stunt like to film?
It was so dramatic! The crew were absolutely incredible, they created such a gorgeous set; all of the mist, blood, beautiful costumes made it perfect. The scenes in the hospital when Fenisha was dying were indescribably difficult, I actually cried throughout every scene – ask anyone who was there.
How do you feel about Ethan and Fenisha coming so close to having their happy ever after, but it ending so horribly?
Oh my gosh, as a fan I’m heart-broken. But, at the same time, I couldn’t have asked for more drama or more of an unforgettable story. What an unbelievable couple of episodes that take you on an unexpected, relentless emotional rollercoaster. In my mind, Fenisha and Ethan were always the perfect couple and will be reunited one day, and dance their first-dance with Bodhi in between them.
Have you watched the episode?
I haven’t seen the whole thing put together yet, but I will absolutely be watching it live with a box of tissues at the ready. I will be sitting with family, and I have actually managed to keep the entire exit storyline a secret from them so far…
What will you miss the most about playing Fenisha?
I miss her already, so this question makes me want to cry. Fenisha was so feisty, but also so wise– she had this ability to see life so clearly, and I think that’s incredible. Though I absolutely adore Fenisha and always will, I knew it was time to say goodbye to her and let her live on in Casualty history.
Will you continue to watch Casualty?
Of course! I’ve got to keep a watchful eye on Fenisha’s baby, Bodhi, and of course, her one true love…
Who will you miss the most in the cast?
Well, having lived with George for most of my time on the show I will definitely miss him; on set and at the flat after work! But I will miss everyone. Every cast member and member of crew brightened up my days. The paramedics were my little family so I’ll miss them dearly but I’ve been in touch with almost everyone since I left. I see Gabs [Leon, aka Jade] and Adele [James, who plays Tina] regularly and chat to them on the phone all the time, as well as Mr Beck [who plays Dylan], but I won’t really miss them because I’ll still be in touch with everyone.
What’s next for you?
I love variety and the unknown, that’s part of why I love being an actor! I have some exciting things in the works, including writing a comedy series and getting a short film I wrote and starred in onto the festival circuit. I can’t divulge too much detail, but I definitely believe that variety is the spice of life…
