Custom Line has hit the waves with a new flagship. The Ferretti Group brand last summer launched the first Custom Line 140’. At 398 gross tons with an LOA of 42.61 meters (140 feet) and a beam of 8.54 meters (28 feet), she is the largest yacht delivered to date in the Custom Line planing series.
Created in collaboration with Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee and Engineering Department, the 140’ is the third Custom Line yacht with exterior styling and interior decoration by Francesco Paszkowski Design, working in partnership with Margherita Casprini and the Custom Line Atelier on the interiors. With sleek, powerful contours and contemporary styling, the 140’ bears the sporty character that is a defining feature of the brand’s planing line. Taut lines sweep from bow to stern in an alternation of materials and colors represented by dark plate glass and light-colored structural surfaces.
The yacht’s layout extends over four decks, with 300 square meters (3,229 square feet) of interior space and more than 200 square meters (2,253 square feet) of outdoor areas. Areas devoted to the owner and guests are kept completely separate from those used by the crew. External walkways and interior staircases connect the lower deck with the sun deck and are designed exclusively for use by the crew.
Her interior spaces make maximum use of natural light through expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing. The interiors are defined by neutral, natural tones and richly textured materials. Furnishings feature light, sophisticated colors alternating with bolder colors and refined materials.
The main deck is characterized by the integration of the interior and exterior spaces, as well as by clear separation between guest areas and crew workspaces to ensure privacy for the owner. A full-height glass door with both sliding and hinge mechanisms unites the living area with the exterior lounge.
The 45-square-meter (484-square-foot) main salon with dining and living areas, is a formal setting defined by flowing lines with a palette of materials and decorations ranging from ivory-hued natural leather to a dark oak parquet floor. Diamond-cut leather is used as finishing for the ceiling and to upholster the furniture.
Ceiling heights of 2.1 meters (24 feet) and four large windows in the hull sides, one of which can be opened, convey a feeling of fluidity, amplify the volumes and provide direct contact with the sea. The central lobby has a minimalist staircase, dominated by pendant lights made of Murano blown glass, that connects the main deck to the lower and upper decks. The dining table seats 10 guests.
The 44-square-meter (474-square-foot), full-beam owner’s apartment is a large, yet intimate living space with sweeping views of the water. The entrance has a double walk-in wardrobe and leads to the bedroom. The space is characterized by a sophisticated, modern design with light-colored, ribbed wood paneling on a mirrored backing accent the space.
Lateral windows on the starboard side make it possible to offer a terrace suspended over the water. A hydraulic mechanism extends the floor platform and handrail system out from the hull, creating a private terrace.
Three well-appointed VIP cabins and a guest cabin with twin beds, all with en suite bathrooms, occupy the lower deck. The colors, materials and decorations reprise the approach used on the main deck.
The yacht’s beach area features an electro-hydraulic system that transforms the aft deck into a water’s-edge terrace. It is equipped with a solarium, which can be converted into a multifunctional open-air lounge.
The upper deck is divided into two distinct outdoor areas. Forward is a spacious living space with comfortable seating, tables and sunbathing areas. It is connected directly to the alfresco dining area aft through two side walkways. A garage located forward can accommodate a tender or rescue boat.
The aft cockpit has a lounge and a dining area accommodating up to 10 around an impressive table, as well as over 42 square meters (452 square feet) to enjoy at any time of day in direct communication with the panoramic indoor skylounge that extends across more than 25 square meters (269 square feet).
The two interconnected settings ensure an authentic indoor-outdoor experience thanks to sliding doors with a fully opening hinge mechanism, and floor-to-ceiling windows that open on both hull sides.
The sundeck stands out for its abundant space. Its 70 square meters (754 square feet) are split into three outdoor areas that come together to offer a 360-degree view in direct contact with the water.
The yacht is fitted with a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines rated 2,638 mhp each. Like all latest-generation Custom Line yachts, the 140’ is available with IMO TIER III certification. The fast-displacement hull and propulsion package gives her a top speed of 21.5 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots. The design employs innovative light-weighting technology, carbon fiber and hybrid materials to improve performance. The use of composite material and carbon fiber for the hull, superstructure and hard top on the sun deck keeps both the weight and draft low giving her the ability to navigate in shallow waters.
As part of the effort to maximize cruising and navigation comfort, the various settings on board all enjoy acoustic comfort and privacy, based on a detailed analysis of each individual noise source and its position in the yacht. Floating floors, special materials and additional insulation between bulkheads and in ceilings are just a few of the solutions used. Comfort in navigation and mooring is also attained by Naiad 525 stabilizing fins, and by three optional Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilizers.
With its Navetta and planing series yachts, Custom Line has made a business of resetting the bar for its competition. The 140’ honors that tradition.
“Custom Line 140’ is not just the new flagship of the brand, she is also a naval design masterpiece. There are many novelties on this unique superyacht and careful research aimed at enhancing shapes and volumes. From the very beginning to the end of building process it took 3 years and we are very proud of this. The great success of Custom Line 140’ has been confirmed at the Boat Shows and we have sold 3 units so far, one of them in the US market”. – Stefano de Vivo, CCO of Ferretti Group
