The ASBAH A Team
As part of ASBAH’s 40th anniversary celebrations, four men – all in their forties – are travelling from France to run the London
Marathon for ASBAH.
One of them, Teresa Cole’s son-in-law, only started jogging occasionally, after his 40th birthday. Gerald Andrew Corrigan (called Andrew by all who know him) lives in France and became interested in ASBAH’s work many years ago through hearing about it from Teresa who headed up our Fieldwork Team, was Assistant Director Services before she retired, and was well-known for championing Empowerment of Adults.
Andrew’s interest was reinforced by the fact that his wife, Anne, also worked a couple of years for ASBAH (at Five Oaks in the 1980s) and she has two sisters with disabilities. In the past, he also worked as a volunteer himself with people with disabilities.
ASBAH and charity work was often a topic of conversation with friends in France and now in our 40th anniversary year 3 of them enthusiastically join Andrew in a London Marathon run for ASBAH.
They see our 40th anniversary year as an appropriate time for four men in their forties to become the ASBAH ‘A’ Team.
Two of the four are brothers, Christian and Serge Dussuyer. Christian has run 7 marathons, including New York. He is so keen on his sport that he gave up his job to work in a sports shop so that he would have more time to run himself and to encourage others to run. Christian hopes to break his own record of 3hrs 7mins and Serge aims to do better than 3hrs 30 mins.
The final member of the team, Phillipe Renault, is known as ‘Coach’ because he dragged Andrew along at many of the races these last 3 years. He is in charge of one of the Forensic Science Depts of the French National Police. He will run alongside, and encourage, Andrew - their objective is to survive the marathon and cross the finishing line in one piece (within 4 hours if possible) and in doing so help to raise awareness of ASBAH’s work in this anniversary year.
Andrew and his wife are also involved in the organisation of a well-known volunteer–run half-marathon in France (les 9 clochers) and his own training route covers part of the Beaujolais wine area of France.
Encourage their efforts to make this a memorable run for ASBAH!
