The outputs and outcomes of ASBAH’s Helpline and Information Service

Outputs

  •  Provision of low cost Helpline Monday-Friday 10am – 4pm
  •  Publication of spina bifida and hydrocephalus information sheets to be provided on request and to also be included onto the website, with the new helpline advertised within them
  • Improved response time for enquiries in both time and quality.  A target of 24 hour turnaround from the current 72 hours
  • Leaflets and posters to be produced to distribute to GP surgeries, hospital clinics, providing information and adverting the helpline
  • Advertisements to be taken out in key media, for example, health pages in national media and parenting and women’s magazines.

Outcomes

  • More disabled people take a more active role in their own care and treatment, through the provision of advice and support
  • Carers/families can provide a more active and lead role in the care and treatment for their disabled child
  •  Pregnant women whose unborn babies are affected with spina bifida have access to information, support and the options available before making decision on treatment and being provided with the means to help them cope
  • More people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus are empowered and confident, through access to knowledge, advice and support.

The outcomes will be measured through external and internal evaluation that takes the form of written and telephone questionnaires and focus groups using a random selection of our callers.
